What is Marble?
Marble is a metamorphic rock which is created when limestone and minerals such as dolomite and calcite are re-crystallized. Other minerals and fossils present during the re-crystallizing process can affect the final colour of the Marble produced.
How are Marble Tiles made?
Large slabs of Marble are cut and milled down to create Marble tiles. Marble offers an attractive solution to floor and wall coverings. Marble has been used for many years as a premier choice covering in building structures and flooring including famous building such as the Taj Mahal. Today Marble is still used in modern architecture for bathrooms, hallways and stairways.
Unlike other harder surfaces such as granite - Marble is relatively soft and more susceptible to scratching and wear especially in high traffic areas.
Are Marble Tiles easy to clean?
Marble floors are easily cleaned with warm water. Vinegar or acid based cleaners should never be used as this will etch the Marble surface. Marble should be dried immediately with a clean cotton cloth as spotting of the Marble surface may occur. If Marble tiles appear dull and simple cleaning doesn't achieve the desired results then professional Marble tile cleaning should be considered.
Tips and advice on how to clean Marble Tiles?
Cleaning Marble tiles can take more than just a mop and bucket. Results will usually depend on the condition and age of the Marble tiles. If Marble tiles are relatively new then a few simple cleaning techniques can restore the condition of Marble tiles.
sweep tiles daily - This will prevent dirt and mud to build up between the grout.
Ventilation - Keep bathrooms and kitchens well ventilated to prevent mildew from forming on the Marble tile and grout surface.
Mopping - Mop Marble Tiles regularly with water. This will remove mildew and help to whiten the grout which has been discoloured by dirt build-up.
pH Neutral Cleaner - Never use Bleach or Vinegar as this can etch the Marble surface. Always use a pH Neutral Cleaner for best results and to avoid damaging the Marble tile surface.
If the above tips don't achieve the results you desire then professional Marble tile cleaning equipment and products will need to be used.
